2 Days Murchison Falls – Safari and Trekking

Murchison Falls NP is the largest protected area in Uganda, occupies the space of and here we find 76 kinds of mammals and 450 coloured kinds of different birds. Huge herds of elephants and buffalo are common and lions are easily spotted. Many antelopes can be seen including Jackson’s hartebeest, waterbuck and Uganda kob. Large herds of giraffe are a specialty, as Murchison Falls and Kidepo Valley are the only parks in Uganda where they can be seen. The park is very scenic and is bisected by the Victoria Nile. During boat trips to the base of the famous Murchison Falls there is an opportunity to watch out for a profusion of hippos, crocodiles and waterbirds, including the elusive and bizarre Shoebill.

Day 1:

7:00 We will pick you from your chosen collection point in Kampala (or Entebbe) and drive north towards Murchison Falls National Park. Once you reach the park boundaries you’ll then drive through Kaniyo Pabidi Forest (watch out for large groups of baboons socialising in the forest). 14:00 We will have a graceful boat trip along the Victoria Nile to the great falls as we view clearly the hippopotamuses, crocodiles and birds. After, we will leave the boat and trek (1 hour) to the top of the hill to see how the water falls makes its way through the rocks forming a great Murchison falls, then return for dinner at lodge (or camp) and  overnight.

Day 2:

You will set off early from your lodge or camp and take a ferry across the river Nile to the heart of Murchison Falls National Park. The early morning light will provide excellent photo opportunities and usually plenty of animal activity before the heat of the day sets in. You will be accompanied by a Uganda Wildlife Authority guide who are experts on the wildlife in the park and greatly increase your chances of finding the animals, so keep an eye out for the elephants, lions, and giraffes as well as large game herds. After safari you will drive back to your drop off point in Kampala (or Entebbe), arriving by early evening.
